Fighting the Invisible

“This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 118:24)

I am rejoicing today. God is with us. It is a new day and we are a step closer to eternal life. I am proud of all of you who, despite being three months into social distancing and wearing masks, are holding on to your faith as the invisible Covid-19 has become a reality in our lives.  Fighting the invisible is hard because, even though we cannot see it, we know it is real. We are seeing the results of the virus’s life or death presence as it disrupts, infects and affects people at home and  around the world. Yet, we look forward to the future with hope because we are confident that there is another invisible more powerful force fighting the battle with us. I am talking about the Holy Spirit.  Jesus once said, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” (John 20:29) We are living during a stressful time but God is giving us courage to face another day. We are a blessed people and because of our faith, we can rejoice.

Nahum was a minor prophet in the Bible. During troubled times he wrote, “The Lord is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knows them that trust in him”. Those words rang true for Nahum and people who lived during the 7th century and are true for us who are living in the 21st century. As you go about this new day remember that the invisible Holy Spirit has been with us since the beginning of time and will not leave us now.

A deer just ran past my office window, birds are feeding at the feeders and I need to mow that beautiful green grass that covers our two acre yard. A gray squirrel is eating birdseed from my teacup bird feeder. A great photo opt. Oh happy day!

Have a blessed and happy day!
