Living in Gap Time

Watches cannot keep Gap Time. God is the timekeeper!

Watches cannot keep Gap Time. God is the timekeeper!

In her book Leaving
Ordinary,
Donna Gaines writes that she has a friend who calls the time between our praying and God answering our prayers “gap time” (pp. 19).  We often pray earnestly and desperately to God for a miracle or help in situations we or loved ones are facing. We hope for an immediate answer but find ourselves waiting in “gap time”.  If you find yourself there today, take courage!  You are in good company.  God’s Holy Word, the Bible, is filled with examples of waiting for prayers to be answered.
Abraham and Sarah are a favorites of mine.  It took God years to fulfill his promise to Abram (Abraham) but in God’s time God provided Abraham his promised son (Isaac) his people the promised land (Israel). What happened along the way is a wonderful account of how God helps the faithful develop a relationship with him. God wants a relationship with us!  He made it possible for all of us to be his chosen people.  John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but have eternal life.”
(NRSV)We are living I Gap Time as we wait in social quarantine and the word that the virus is contained. Social media is a blessing right now. We can and are praying for each other. We are all in the same boat and Jesus is our lighthouse guiding our scientists and health care workers towards the solution. Keep praying, trusting and believing! Your prayers are being answered. It takes time. God is working behind the scenes and he knows his plan all His children in His world.  Remember what God told Jeremiah, “For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope” (Jeremiah 29:11 NRSV).
